This being my third blog entry, it’s time to get down to work. I love to paint and I love to travel. I love to do both at the same time, and I really love to help others find their painting sweet spot. I love to mentor others on their way to finding their voice as an artist. It’s so exciting to watch a student find their voice as they’re pushing around paint on paper. To see the excitement in their eyes and to watch their art develop into something uniquely their own. I love being part of that process of discovery of their inner voice. With future blogs, I’ll be sharing short mini classes and little extra art treats all for you to enjoy and stretch yourself as you find your unique inner artist’s voice, but for now let me share more of myself with you.
Most summers, I travel to Pemaquid Point, Maine for several weeks to paint, relax, and enjoy my happy place. Nothing brings me as much pleasure as being next to the beauty and majestic wilds of the Atlantic ocean. Walking the loop, enjoying the lighthouse, and the lobster. Maine is home to me. I have friends there that I look forward to seeing every year, and the excitement I feel at the thought of being there keeps me going all year long until the next time I visit. Maine is my heart’s desire. I found my way as an artist in Maine and I found my mentor, William “Skip” Lawrence, in Maine. Can you tell how special Maine is to me? Yep, it’s special, very special! Even the light is amazing there—it glows!
How do I paint? I start with a feeling and how I want to convey that feeling in my painting. This will be something I’ll demonstrate more in my short lessons, but it’s about emotions, colors, sizes, shapes, and lines. We’re talking about content, form, and adding your special piece of magic that only you can add to your art. So, what do you want to say with your art? First, you’ve got to figure out what truly moves you, and the best way to do that is to look at other artist’s that inspire you. I’ll share with you some of the artists that have had an impact on me and on my journey as an artist.
What artists have influenced you, and how have they had an impact on your art? That’s what I’ll be talking about in Blog #4, the artists that inspire.
