WE Collection
I travel for my art, and I love to paint in the state of Maine. Pemaquid Point, Maine is my happy place. In 2019, I was at The Hotel Pemaquid reading the newspaper before I got into my painting day, and there was an article about an 11 year old girl in Ohio that had been raped and impregnated. She didn’t wish to be pregnant and she and her family tried to terminate the pregnancy. This child and her family were told that she couldn’t terminate the pregnancy, and she was told if she terminated the pregnancy she would go to jail longer than the rapist that attacked and imprenated her. This child had lost her childhood through rape, and now could lose her life through childbirth. We’re not even talking about the emotional trauma she must have been experiencing having a grown man violate her small female body with his grown man body and penis. This enraged me as a mother and as a woman, and so I started painting my emotions and birthed my vagina/vulva paintings.
I support all people’s rights to their choices over their own bodies. I especially support the children that are already here living and breathing, like that 11 year old child in Ohio from 2019. I see you, I hear you, I will stand with you, by you, with my shoulder, hand, and heart.
